If it is cast or imported from the Orient it is worth - well, not much I don't know where all this $1 per pound comes from, unless we are talking about something other than real 'blacksmith' quality anvils.. If you can get a picture & description of your anvil email me & I'll give you the name of a real expert who can tell you all about it.. You will kick yourself if you get rid of it Check the anvil for markings (stamps) which can be deciphered.. A forged steel anvil will outlast many smiths if properly mounted and protected from the weather.. Either way, you win! If so, that would confirm your thoughts on it being an Arm & Hammer anvil (same manufacturer as Arm & Hammer: Columbus Anvil & Forging Co).. There are alot of modern cast iron anvils made in China being sold now that are pretty much junk, however, if you inherited an old anvil it is probably wrought iron with a tool steel face and very desirable, especially in a large size.. I would gladly come to pick it up if close to NJ JJ - IF your anvil is an old forged anvil from around the turn of the century or earlier it will bring a LOT more than a buck a pound..
